Catholic Social Media Summit

It's been more than a year since me and my friends in the online ministry attended the 1st ever CSMS (Catholic Social Media Summit) held at the Renaissance Convention Center in Marikina City, Philippines. It was a very lively event participated by Priests, Religious and the Laity coming from different dioceses and groups across the country.

The primary aim of the CSMS was to maximize the use of social media as a platform in "spreading the Good News," in which all Christians, by virtue of our baptism are called to. Pope-Emeritus Benedict XVI, in his message during the 45th World Communications Day, emphasized this role of Christians to evangelize:

"I would like then to invite Christians, confidently and with an informed and responsible creativity, to join the network of relationships which the digital era has made possible. This is not simply to satisfy the desire to be present, but because this network is an integral part of human life. The web is contributing to the development of new and more complex intellectual and spiritual horizons, new forms of shared awareness. In this field too we are called to proclaim our faith that Christ is God, the Saviour of humanity and of history, the one in whom all things find their fulfillment (cf. Eph 1:10)"

I've been involved in the online ministry since 2007 and I must admit, proclaiming the Gospel in the internet is not an easy task. One must think of different techniques on how to relay the Gospel message in such a way that people, most importantly the youth, will understand it in the "language" they know. How challenging it is! But thank God for the CSMS, things became a lot easier and productive in my "ministry life."

For this year, the CSMS version 2.0 will be held on November 23 - 24, 2013 at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and I invite all internet-based ministries, families and individuals to register in this event and learn new ways and means to evangelize the digital world.

“Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature," says the LORD (Mark 16:15).
